Terms
Plain language, because a term nobody reads protects nobody.
What the service is
CiteFiles fetches public pages from a website you name and reports on how well AI assistants can find, read and cite it. It is a measurement and advice tool. It does not change your site and cannot.
What you are agreeing to
- Only scan sites you own, or public sites you have a legitimate reason to audit. Do not use us to probe somebody else’s infrastructure.
- Do not attempt to use the scanner to reach private networks, internal hosts or anything behind authentication. We block this, and trying is a misuse of the service.
- Do not automate the service to run at a volume that would burden the sites being scanned, or us. The published rate limits are the limits.
- One account per person. Do not share credentials.
What we promise, and what we do not
A scan is a set of measurements taken at one moment from one place. A crawler-access result reflects how your origin answered us then; it can change with your CDN settings, your traffic, or the requesting network. Treat the report as evidence, not a warranty.
Generated files are drawn from your own published text and are a starting point, not a finished publication. Read them before you publish them. You remain responsible for everything on your site.
We do not promise that acting on this report will improve your traffic, your rankings, or how often an assistant mentions you. Nobody can promise that honestly. What we can tell you is whether a crawler can currently read you, which is a precondition for all of it.
The service is provided as it is, without warranty. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from its use.
Your content
Text we read from your site remains yours. We store excerpts to produce your report and files, and we do not republish, resell or train on them. Files we generate for you are yours to use however you like, with no attribution required.
Ending it
You can ask us to delete your account at any time by writing to hello@citefiles.com. We may suspend an account that is being used to abuse other people’s sites or ours, and we will say why when we do.
Changes
If these terms change materially, the change is announced on this page. The scoring rubric is versioned separately, so a score can always be traced to the rules it was given.
